YOU can tell a lot about a star by their entourage. The tall and beautiful Anushka Sharma is an exception. She does not need bouncers around her to protect her from the hoards of madly-in-love fans. She is tough.When she answers a question it is even worse, the pain thrown to you with sarcasm and dry wit. Anushka Sharma simply puts you on the spot. You have no escape. She is smart, knows when you are pulling her leg with your questions.So, the following words aptly describe Anushka Sharma: flirty, sexy and slightly dangerous. With her ease, charm, humour and generosity, it was not hard for me to believe that I was not the first journalist to propose marriage to her, and I'm sure I won't be the last.But beyond all this, Anushka Sharma is a fiery performer and dips into her role like a tortilla would in salsa, spicing up the big screen. I will not be surprised to see the same in her next release, Patiala House.DEVANSH PATEL: What got you interested in signing up for Patiala House? ANUSHKA SHARMA: Roles like Shruti of Band Baaja don't come to you every day. Having said that, I signed Patiala House before Band Baaja Baaraat.There are different reasons why one signs films.
I very clearly knew that the film revolves around the son's conflict with his father because he wants to fulfil his dreams. But I also knew that if my character wasn't there in the film, the change in that man would never have happened.She is the person who changes the course of the story, the whole system. I play a slightly comic character but talk regular nonsense. If you read between the lines, many of my dialogues have a subtle meaning.DP: The film has cricket as its backdrop. Do you enjoy the sport? AS: I am not a cricket lover. All I know about cricket is the captain of the Indian team is MS Dhoni. I've never played cricket.I watched the World Cup, I remember. And I watched the Football World Cup once, but I am not a sports person at all. Yes, I love watching tennis whenever it's on the television.DP: And how are you viewed after your last success, Band Baaja Baaraat? AS: After Band Baaja Baaraat, people view me differently. As an actor, I have grown and matured. Every time my films came out and did well, the media and my fans said that 'she stood firm next to SRK', 'she did well with Shahid', and so on. It was great. I got to learn so much from them.But with Band Baaja Baaraat, it was the reverse. I stood on my own. DP: Is Patiala House a make-or-break film for Akshay Kumar and Nikhil Advani? AS: No, I don't think so.Akshay once told me that he had 17 flops in a row. He was still in the industry doing films. He never quit. There are phases. You think of doing a film for several reasons and that doesn't mean that the actor or the director has made a wrong choice. Nikhil and Akshay wanted to make Chandni Chowk to China, but people didn't think it was entertaining. They accepted it.When I agreed to do Band Baaja Baaraat, I wasn't sure whether the film would work or not. But you can't take on everybody's opinion. DP: Recall the time when you first saw Akshay Kumar or heard about him. AS: I can't recall exactly my days when I first saw Akshay Kumar, probably because I wasn't a kid who loved films.I never knew any names of films while I was in school and college. So when I am told that some actor had an affair with some actress, I get shocked. The first time I saw Akshay Kumar on the big screen was in Dil To Paagal Hai. I felt really sad for him because he never got Madhuri Dixit in the film and when you talk about him being a Casanova, I got a bit surprised. I think he is a man who has so much love for everybody. DP: You are nominated in the various award ceremonies this year, and you have already started winning them.AS: Honestly, I feel very bad when I don't win awards because if you are putting me up there, I really hope I will win. I feel happy that Band Baaja put me in the nominations with actresses who've been more than two decades or a decade in the industry.I am 22 years old. I don't get upset at not winning awards, but I do feel saddened. I cried in my car after the Filmfare awards when I didn't win the Best Debut award. Yesterday, my brother's friend was at home and I was showing him a few of my awards. He told me that I should be getting more awards and making some shelf space.I will feel very bad if I make more space when I know that nothing will come (laughs). But at the moment, there is enough space for a few more to be put up.
